Our evaluation takes an average of 30 minutes to one hour and encompasses a series of standardized tests based on your child’s age that assesses articulation skills and receptive and expressive language skills. We will also complete an oral motor exam, hearing screening, and voice and fluency (stuttering) assessment.
Your child’s performance will tell us how he/she compares to other children of the same age and if a disorder is present, and if so the level of severity (mild, moderate, severe). In order to treat your child’s disorder, we will recommend speech therapy. We reassure parents not to allow the results of the evaluation to be discouraging; the fact that you have brought your child in for help is the first step towards helping your child overcome. The best thing that you can do for your child is to facilitate an environment for growth, which is why we are here to help.
The evaluation is performed in an environment (home, daycare, or preschool) that is most comfortable for your child in order to foster optimal performance.
